Trenčín 2026

In 2022, Trenčín was selected as the European Capital of Culture for 2026. Büro Milk was invited to design the visual identity for the program, a long-term cultural platform involving dozens of institutions and hundreds of projects.

The central idea, Inspire to Discover, focused on strengthening the city's cultural life and encouraging people to actively explore it. The challenge was to create an identity flexible enough to support this diversity over several years while remaining recognisable.

The proposal focused on evolution rather than replacement. Instead of discarding the city's original logo designed by Emil Drličiak in 2005, we deconstructed its visual logic and used it as the foundation for a new modular system.

From this structure, I developed a custom stencil typeface that became the core tool of the identity. The typeface allows projects and institutions to build their own visual expressions while still sharing the same underlying structure.

The resulting system behaves like a modular puzzle, flexible enough to accommodate different voices while maintaining a coherent visual language across the entire program. Applied across print, digital, public space, wayfinding and cultural programming. One typeface. Dozens of voices in one city.
