Trenčín 2026
In 2022, Trenčín was selected as the European Capital of Culture 2026. Büro Milk was invited to design the visual identity for the program – a long-term cultural platform involving dozens of institutions, hundreds of projects and a wide range of audiences. The key challenge was to create an identity flexible enough to support this diversity over several years, while remaining coherent and recognisable. The program’s central idea, Inspire to Discover, focused on strengthening the city’s cultural life and encouraging people to actively explore it.
I proposed a typographic-led solution based on transformation rather than replacement. We deconstructed Trenčín’s original logo, designed by Emil Drličiak in 2005, and used its underlying visual logic as a foundation. From this structure, I developed a custom stencil typeface that became the cornerstone of the identity and the primary tool for building the entire visual system.
The resulting modular, multicolor, puzzle-like system allows individual projects and institutions to express themselves freely, while maintaining a shared visual language across the whole program. Designed as a system meant to evolve over time, the identity was applied across print and digital communication, public space, wayfinding, exhibition materials and cultural programming.
